One of the most treasured aspects I find in being a wedding and lifestyle photographer is documenting stories that are years in the making. There's something so magical about hearing about a couple's love story, and witnessing them enter into a season of being engaged/planning their wedding. Not too long ago, I had the honor of being on the other side of the camera for my own engagement photos (photographed by my sweet friend, Sydney Breann Photography), so I know firsthand just how giddy it feels in the moment. Capturing Mary and Clayton's Wisconsin Point late summer engagement photos brought back all those feelings I had as my fiancé and I frolicked in Glacier National Park.

Mary and Clayton have one of those love stories that just feels like it was tied up in a neat little bow. They are high school sweethearts, both went to school in the Twin Ports, and both now work in the Duluth healthcare system. Photographing their engagement photos was just such a joy to be a part of. As they waded in Lake Superior and strolled the beach, I was overwhelmed with a feeling of calmness in their presence. Mary and Clayton are two of the most kindhearted, go-with-the-flow people; they made my job almost too easy! To make their engagement photos even more special, their session was just 1 year, to the day, from their wedding. What a fun way to enter into their countdown to tying the knot! August 3, 2024 can't come soon enough.
As a wedding photographer, I might be biased, but engagement photos are a must. Odds are, you and your partner probably haven't spent a ton of time in front of the camera. And even if you have, the amount of peace and comfort that you will walk away with having photos done with your wedding photographer is invaluable. You'll be familiar with how your photographer poses you, how they give you prompts, their personality, how they communicate, etc. Having engagement photos done calms your nerves before your wedding day even arrives (talk about a bonus)!
Capturing Mary and Clayton's Wisconsin Point late summer engagement photos was the perfect way to spend an August evening. I will never tire of the warm sunshine, soft sand, and the cool waters of Lake Superior. Living in the Northwoods is truly just such a blessing, and I pray that I never take it for-granted.
