Lizzie and Steven’s foggy Duluth, Minnesota intimate wedding was one that felt like a beautiful fairytale from the earliest moments of their day. Captured by my associate, Sophia Birkeland Photography, I still swoon over these images every time I see them. From Lizzie and Steven’s intimate ceremony at the Duluth Rose Garden overlooking Lake Superior to their private vow exchange at Wisconsin Point, every aspect of their day was perfect.
Intimate Wedding in Duluth, Minnesota
Looking through these photos, I am instantly transported to walking alongside the bride and groom throughout one of the best days of their lives. They began their day getting ready at an Airbnb in Duluth, close to the Duluth Rose Garden. The photos of Lizzie and her flower girls give me goosebumps and bring tears to my eyes. I just know that those little flower girls will treasure these photos for years to come as they someday walk down the aisle themselves.
After a joyful first look between Lizzie and Steven, it was time for their ceremony overlooking the foggy Lake Superior. If you’ve ever been to Duluth, you know that the Duluth Rose Garden is a popular destination along the boardwalk for tourists on their way up from the Aerial Lift Bridge. Despite the space being pretty public, Lizzie and Steven’s intimate ceremony seemed to be as private as you could ask for. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they were in their own little world as they committed to one another for a lifetime.
But beyond all of the glory of Lizzie and Steven’s wedding day, the sweetest, most special moment was actually that Lizzie’s baby bump had just started to show. Throughout their Northern Minnesota wedding day, their sweet baby got in on all the fun from beginning to end. Before heading to their reception at Black Woods Event Center in Proctor, to announce their baby’s gender, Lizzie and Steven were able to sneak away to Wisconsin Point for a private vow exchange.

When planning Lizzie and Steven’s wedding day, Sophia and I chatted with them about the importance of honoring their day. As a wedding photographer, I truly value the couple’s moments coming first - before the photos, even. So when it was time for their beachfront private vow exchange, Sophia stayed back to allow them time to soak up their moments. After their intimate vow exchange, Lizzie and Steven snuck in a first dance among the fog of Lake Superior. And it was pure magic.
